Doing interiors or a false ceiling? Decide the wiring this week.
The false ceiling is the last moment the wiring is open. Once the gypsum is up and the walls are plastered, every automation choice becomes a chase, a patch and a repaint. Here is what to settle with your interior designer and electrician in Visakhapatnam before that day.
Four things to ask for before the ceiling closes
- A neutral wire at every switch point. Smart panels need it; conventional switches do not, so electricians often leave it out. It is a two-minute change on the drawing.
- One conduit from the distribution board to the main gate pillar. Even if the gate stays manual for now, the pipe is what makes a motor possible later without digging the driveway.
- Lighting circuits grouped by scene, not by wall. Cove, spots, pendants and lamps on separate lines, so each can dim on its own. This is the difference between "all lights on" and a room that changes for dinner, a film or late night.
- Power and a data conduit where the screen and amplifier will sit. A 16A point and one empty pipe to the ceiling make a home theatre a clean job instead of a visible cable.
What changes if the ceiling is already closed
Wireless control takes over from wired panels. SmartNode modules sit behind the existing switch plates or in the ceiling; scenes, gate, CCTV and Wi-Fi coverage all still work. Two things get harder: panels are limited to what fits the existing boxes, and cove lighting wired as one circuit cannot be dimmed in sections. How we work with your designer
1. Drawing review
Send the electrical layout. We mark the changes above and anything specific to your plan, free, usually within the week.
2. Panels to the finish schedule
Once the interior finishes are chosen we design the touch panels to match: gang count, icons, colour and labels per room.
3. Install after fixtures
We install once lights and fixtures are in and power is at every board, so nothing is disturbed after the painter has left.
See it working
The demo flat at CBM Compound, Visakhapatnam has panels, DALI lighting scenes and gate control running. Bring your designer; it is the fastest way to agree what goes where.
Questions we get asked
Do I need to decide on automation before the false ceiling goes in?
Not the whole system, but the wiring, yes. A neutral at every switch point, separately wired lighting circuits and a conduit to the gate are cheap now and expensive after plastering. We mark these on your drawing for free.
Can automation be added after the interiors are finished?
Yes. Wireless control replaces wired panels: scenes, gate, CCTV and Wi-Fi coverage all work. The panel choice is narrower and some cove lighting cannot be dimmed separately, which is why we prefer to be called earlier.
Do you do false ceilings or interiors yourselves?
No. We work alongside your interior designer, false-ceiling contractor and electrician. We add the control plan and the panels; they keep their roles.
Does my electrician need to be trained?
No. The wiring is standard. We give a marked drawing with what goes where, and we are available on the phone to the electrician while the conduits go in.
